CHANEL Cruise 2012/13 Beauty Spot

Peter Philips created this look for the CHANEL Cruise 2013 Show.  The cherry tones remind me of the look we saw from Anna Sui for Spring 2012, with a high blushed cheek blended into a saturated eye.  This look is much more intense in the eyes, however played down in the natural-looking lips. Two products in the look will be coming in December 2012 in the Versailles de CHANEL collection. CHANEL also created these cute little black velvet logos to stick on the cheeks of the models.

Beauty spots have long been considered one of the most attractive features of the female face. This week, to compliment Karl Lagerfeld's "Versailles in a Socialist France" themed collection for Cruise 2013, global creative director for Chanel make-up Peter Phillips and his team applied interlocking Cs to the models' faces. The iconic black velvet details were a striking contrast to the pastel blunt cropped wigs and the pink eyeshadow and blusher.

Following a longstanding fascination with the treatment of eyebrows in fashion, I'am excited about the revival of the beauty spot. Its popularity can be traced back to the 18th century, when women would draw their own with eye pencil or apply false silk or velvet patches known as "mouches". In the 1950s, Marilyn Monroe's beauty mark became one of the actress's most defining features; the same, decades later, for supermodel Cindy Crawford, Madonna and Natalie Portman. Medically, beauty spots are generally melanocytic nevus, more specifically the compound variant. They are usually symmetrical in shape and measure no more than a centimeter.

Rose Favorite Soft Touch Eyeshadow and Rose Pétale blusher part of the Versailles de CHANEL collection available in December 2012.

Jewelled Beauties by  CHANEL Cruise 2012/13 Show

... Lagerfeld has often riffed on Rococo, but he has never staged an expression of his fascination for the era so literally in situ as for CHANEL Cruise 2012/13 Collection. There was much charm: a play on fichu necklines, straw cartwheel sun hats, and hints of a corseted, ruffly-skirted milkmaid silhouette. Still, despite the historical narrative, there were plenty of Chanel tweed jackets and suits on parade regular, yet special enough for an older generation to buy into. The breathtaking scale of the entertainment, however, sent Chanel’s audience spinning ...
